A trip to Paradise Falls

This happy little bugger is not a fantastic hiker, but he goes along with us, none the less.  He's stubborn and will only wear his flash shirt (this one in the photo) or a very old handmedown swim shirt that is light blue and green, on the bottom he will only wear his brown swim trunks or loose gray shorts.  And his crocs.  Those crocs drive me crazy!  They are little small and not good for running.  At all.  This will be a recurring theme in this holiday - the daily battle with Tanner over his shoes.  He prefers to be shoeless, but he crocs are a compromise, and not a good one.  On this day, we had to make him wear his skate shoes because of the hike.  There was a lot of screaming.  This little tidbit, is to let you know every morning is a small battle over clothing and shoes, but one day he will grow out of it and we will laugh about it and point out to him this flash shirt is in nearly every photo!  I have to wash it out at night and let it dry or alternate the outfits. This persistence and dedication in his personality is there for a reason.  And he is so cute that it makes it easier.

Tris is posing by this old, really old aqua duct that brought fresh water from the pool under the waterfall to the farms below.
He is so excited to go to "Paradise Falls" - the falls in South America in the movie, "Up!"  We are hiking to two waterfalls today - Lion Falls and China Falls.  I have been to Lion but never to China Falls and am really excited.  It's a little chilly on this morning and the air in this forest is wet - it is a wet forest, after all.  It's making for really interesting plants and insects for us to see!
Like this blue spider web!  These were on the side of the trail in one area and a beautiful shade of blue and silver!  We didn't see the spiders that made them (Mommy was happy about that.)  We did see a couple of very green and bluish lizards on the rocks but they were very fast and did not like photos.
The moss takes over and claims whatever it wants!

Here is another shot of the old aqua duct.  It was pretty impressive.
Tristan is giving Tanner a little boost so he can see the waterfall in the distance.
He's pretend dirt biking on the trail and has to make sure each area is clear and safe ahead.
It was not easy to convince him to put on a rain jacket.  But it's so darn cute!  He will be grateful for it in a few minutes.
There is the Salto de Leon, off in the distance - it's roar is so loud we can hear it long before we can see it.  The mist in the air is from the force of the water.
It's so hard to capture the falls at this time of day with the sunshine overhead and all of the water drops in the air.  We are also getting wet, even this far from the falls!

To Tristan, this was the real deal and he loved it!!!  He couldn't believe how forceful the water was or how wet we got - even far away!

Here are the guys hiking up to the next waterfall, Salto de Chine.  And below is the actual falls:

The four of us with the China Falls behind us.

Hiking back to the truck!  Happy hikers loved the falls and trails.  We saw a rickety zip line set up on the way in that Tristan wants to check out (NO WAY.) and I think I saw a sign for some kuchen, which I feel I have earned by walking.  :)
