Our time at the beach was fun! We laughed about how we were not very experienced beach people - shaking out our towels and getting sand over each other, navigating the beach, what to bring, etc. However, we are going to practice and get better at it. So, more trips to the beach will just be what we NEED to do.
Our first night in Concon, Franco (Kiko's cousin) came over to visit and welcome him! Franco is a favorite of the kids, for sure! He's in the Navy and has a motorcycle. Very cool guy.
We had an asado (grilled dinner) one night at the house and got to meet his girlfriend, Cony! We also got to see Kumen and his wife again, another friend of Kiko's, and Nicole Nogara and a friend of hers came!
The beach was fun as Tristan played with his Christmas gift - a boogie board - and we got sunshine and lots of time playing in the sand. Tanner did NOT like the water. To be honest, the water is very, very cold and I am not really a fan either!
We learned that it is a good idea to rent or buy an umbrella for a little shade relief. And if they have lounge chairs, just go ahead and rent them too. Those made me happy.
Here is some of our beach time fun:
That's a picture of our rented relief outpost.
Look at Tristan totally rocking the boogie board! He would ride it all the way in. All the way, totally bottoming out in the sand! He ripped - it was his first time and he just went for it and did great! And did I mention the water is freezing? There are a lot of people wearing wet suits. A lot.
In Concon, Tristan and I rode horses! This was an experience. At first, we were all going, with me holding Tanner. That made me extremely nervous. Nervous. Extremely. Like, freak out nervous. I didn't have to freak out, because Tanner did as soon as the horse moved. Kiko stayed behind (not being a big horse fan at all) and Tristan and I went.
I was holding way too much stuff (two or three hats, a hoodie and something else I cannot remember) and had my big camera around my neck, and needed to hold the reigns. Which was not very easy. Did I mention that I was nervous. I was also really feeling for these overworked animals. And sorry for all the extra weight I am carrying. I mean, the horse had to carry. So, I was not inclined to be really firm with my horse. Which, as it turns out, was a mistake.
My horse was really thirsty.
He went right for the water.
Did I mention I could barely hold on?
As I felt myself slipping, Tristan was behind me yelling, "I'm falling! I'm slipping!" It was nerve wracking. I managed to stay on the horse, just barely, but lost the reigns. And the guide (who was like, maybe, thirteen years old) took them away from me and put me on a lead. Like my six year old.
But that was awesome because I could finally take a picture! Here it is:
Being on a lead meant I was pretty close to Tristan. So I could threaten him to stop screaming and enjoy the ride. And he did. He just changed up his attitude in a second and all of a sudden it was really a lot of fun! We pretended we were in a movie and he said it was like we were really in Narnia. It ended up being really awesome.
Here are some more up close shots of my little big guy in almost Narnia:
